Landboxes
Compact land reclamation system
The coast has always been a recursive environment to thrive various civilizations, building multiple cities across the world in direct relation to this wet landscape, serving as the layout for the development of following generations. Our ancestors sought the coast for its resource abundance – from food to transportation –, presenting good trading opportunities which promoted development in strategic coastal spots. This trend has not changed, and with an increasingly growing population mixed with the current built up area of cities, we are in need to challenge the standard ideas of our built environment along the shorelines.
System
The Landboxes Unit is the main modular element of the System. It is a large hexagonal volume box made of reinforced concrete, like a port caisson, that, thanks its special characteristics, allows it to be assembled with others to create new territory.
How
It is built through a naval platform, it is then positioned in a specific location and is assembled with other units until the required surface area has been achieved. It positioned through sustained gravity or tensioned flotation.
Where
One of the main advantages of the Landboxes System is that it’s highly adaptable and can be implemented in any land reclamation project, no matter the location, size or depth, and is especially suitable for depths
